Rather than bridging the divide between strangers, technology, specifically the use of cell phones, has ironically driven humans to frown on human interaction.
In the age of technology, we text message or tweet to broadcast our status. “I am sitting on the toilet reading a paper” or “ROFLMAO I love it.” The use of technology almost encourages us to shun interaction. It is no longer an uncommon sight to see two people at the supermarket (does anyone call it that anymore?) carrying on several different conversations with other people on their respective cell phones.
Frankly, I was not one of those who romanticized cell phones during the “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air”-cell-phones-the-size-of-Antartica era, I remember the days of calling a friend to play and there was either an answer or an endless ringing. There were no answering machines. No texting. No call waiting.
And I am only 30 years old.
I want to further examine the effect of technology on human interaction.
